Improve your voicing skills and confidence! This workshop will focus on constructed dialogue for interpreting from sign language into spoken English. Participants will explore what constructed dialogue is, and learn strategies for navigating constructed dialogue for more accurate and effective interpretations. This workshop is highly interactive, with lots of opportunities for practice, and activities to take home for continued skill development.
Educational Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Define “constructed dialogue”
- Examine the use of dialogue in English narratives and discourse
- Assess interpreting product for appropriate use of dialogue in English
- Discuss effective strategies for improving constructed dialogue more effectively

Amber Tucker
About Our Presenter(s):
Amber Tucker (she/her) is a certified ASL-English interpreter, mentor, presenter, and interpreter trainer. She has a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies: Ethnic Studies, Diversity and Difference from the University of Iowa, and a Master’s degree in Deaf History and Culture: Audism and Allyship from Union Institute & University. Ms. Tucker has taught in Interpreter Training Programs at the community college and university levels for over 10 years, and has been a workshop presenter and mentor for over 15 years. Amber has a passion for professional development rooted in a philosophy of lifelong learning and partnership with the Deaf community.
