Getting Started: Foundational Coding Knowledge in ASL

Saturday, July 26, 2025 | 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Central U.S. Time

Join TWTP in welcoming Ziyou (Mark) Sun!!

If you’ve ever had interest in coding or interpreting for coding classes, you won’t want to miss this workshop taught by Ziyou (Mark) Sun!!

Ziyou will teach us what coding is, introduce us to coding languages, coding concepts, and history of the coding world. This workshop will be completely taught in ASL, giving participants the opportunity to learn not only the foundation of coding but also the signs simultaneously.

– How would you represent various coding languages in sign?
– Do you know how to interpret the difference between the back end vs the front end?

Participants will be provided time to apply their knowledge by getting hands-on coding experience at the end of the workshop.

These topics will be taught at the introductory level to start your journey but be prepared to dive in as we only have three hours to develop a foundation for your offline learning!

Educational Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of minimally 4 coding terms and their functions.
  2. Demonstrate a minimum of 3 ASL signs for foundational coding concepts
  3. Illustrate understanding of topics learned in this workshop by getting hands-on coding experience.
